Relay For Life 2017 – Hanover, PA
Last weekend, C.H. Reed participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Our local event took place at the New Oxford Senior High School Stadium in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. So far, the Hanover area raised over $200,000 to help fund groundbreaking cancer research and patient care programs. We’d like to give a big shout-out to all 52 teams, team leaders, team members, and donators on this gracious achievement.
Our team, Reed’s Rally For A Cure, came in third place out of the 52 teams; raising and contributing $13,032 to the cause. The honorary ambassador for this year’s Relay For Life was Scot Becker, son of C.H. Reed employee Jeff Becker. Scot was only 13 years old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Fast forward a couple years and he is now cancer free. Jeff and his wife Cristy were our team captains. At our team site, we raffled off a wagon full of assorted items, a football themed basket, inspirational bracelets with cancer charms, three shelves & a birdhouse made by Jeff’s 14 year old son Jesse, and candy cane Christmas ornaments made by Jeff’s youngest son Noah. Our theme this year was Christmas in July so we sold beaded stars and ornament covers with cancer charms.
Many C.H. Reed employees (alongside a number of local businesses) generously donated money to our team; contributing to our success. Every year, we walk to honor our co-workers, friends, and family that lost their battles with cancer; most recently a long-time Reed employee of 44 years and a Reed family member, Sharon Martin. Cancer has touched all of us in some way, shape, or form. Together, we’ll be a part of making a difference in this important cause.
